rab woods

Robert, Rab, Boaby??? Whatever he is known as, ‘the big man’ is a welcome new addition to The Ceilidh Bandidos. He is so well know in Scotland’s cultural scene that our home grown soap opera, River City, based their lovable rogue ‘Shellsuit Bob’ on our Robert! (OK, I’ll take that bit down if you ask nicely!)

Here is what Rab has to say for himself…

“My name is Robert Woods. I am 36 years old and live in Oban, on the west coast of Scotland.

I play guitar, mandola and occasionally 5 string, open backed, Appalachian style banjo! I can turn my hand to other things like mandolin, tenor banjo, bass, moothie and vocals as and when required.

I’ve been about for many years playing music in numerous different forms, from playing electric, acoustic and bass guitars in rock bands to folk and ceilidh plus jammin’ along with all manner of exotic people with equally exotic instruments. I’ll give anything a go and even sing when provoked.

Being left handed I have learned to be highly adaptable. In one rock band I would play a right-handed bass guitar turned upside down then I’d go on to an acoustic guitar tuned to DADGAD then electric guitar in standard tuning. That really kept me on my toes! Plus, any players watching could never understand what the hell I was doing.

Anyway I’m sure the Bandidos will refresh the parts other ceilidh bands don’t reach and I’m very much looking forward to helping you have a right good ol’ foot stompin’ evening.”
